Explore Beautiful Grand Prairie TX

Considered part of the Mid-Cities area of the DFW metroplex, Grand Prairie is a growing city with parts located in three counties: Ellis, Tarrant, and Dallas. The city’s population has almost doubled in the twenty-first century, counted as 196,100 in 2020 by the US Census Bureau. The name of the town is based on the community of Big Prairie OH, and it was founded in the 1860s when a Texas landowner, Alexander McRae Dechman, bought land in Dallas County. He platted out the town after the Civil War, and Grand Prairie Texas was born. The town has a long history with the aerospace industry, producing planes for both World Wars and currently having companies like Lockheed Martin and Vought Aircraft Industries in town.

There’s a lot to see and do in the greater metroplex area, but also in Grand Prairie! The Lone Star Park is a horse racing track, but there’s also concert venue The Theatre at Grand Prairie, Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark, and the GPX Skate Park. Visitors and residents can also take in a show or concert at the historic Uptown Theatre in the historic downtown area. The Ripley’s Believe It Or Not and Louis Tussaud’s Palace of Wax is also a fun place to visit for families. There’s also one of the largest flea markets in Texas, Traders Village, near the town on State Highway 360.
