One of the cities in Hood County, Texas, Tolar is part of the Granbury, Texas, micropolitan statistical area located inside the greater Dallas-Forth Worth Metropolitan Area. It is 16 miles west of Granbury on Highway 377.
Early settlement of the area dates back as early as 1823, within the area of San Felipe de Austin, via an official act of the Governor of Coahuila and Texas. The county was within the Comanche Trail area. The station that formed there was called Squaw Creek Station, which would be renamed Tolar in 1870 in honor of General Tolar.
The Windmill Farm is one of the nicer places to visit along Highway 377, an experience that provides a view back into the older ways that were used back in the day by farmers of all sorts.
