About Garland TX
Located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Dallas County, Garland is a bedroom community for Dallas, connected by DART rail lines and bus routes. The city is the third largest in Dallas county with a population of 246,018 as of the 2020 Census. During its growth, Garland absorbed several smaller communities like Centerville, Duck Creek Embree, and Oakridge. There are also some sub-communities within Garland like Firewheel, an upscale neighborhood near George Bush Turnpike. Embree and Duck Creek were the first community founded in the area in the mid 1800s. The two communities feuded over who got the post office until they were combined into Garland in 1887 with the post office located exactly between both towns.
Today, Garland is a fast-growing modern community with that small Texas town feel that has a lot to do for visitors to the DFW area. The place to start is the Garland Landmark Museum in the historic railroad depot. The Hawaiian Falls water park is a great place to get out of the Texas sun while visiting, and Six Flags amusement park is about an hour drive away. For nature lovers, the Spring Creek Forest Preserve is a beautiful park known for its rare plants and scenic hiking trails. San Martino Winery & Vineyards is worth a trip to enjoy some local wines.
